Press Conference #2

What they said in Germany - Australia match

Germany
Markus Weise, coach

On the game
“The game wasn´t too exciting. Neither team played as it played in Athens. Both teams have new players and that was reflected in the game. The score 1-0 is OK because on the second half we had more shots on goal”.

On the welcome home after Athens
“I wasn´t welcomed because I didn´t return to Germany, I went on holidays right after Athens. We had a brief preparation for this tournament. We played three matches against England we won two and lost one.”

Rodewald Marion
On the artificial turf
“At first it was bouncy and it wasn´t easy to play. But we got used to it then”.

On the welcome home after Athens
“We had a great welcome in Frankfurt and then on our final destinations we had many parties in our cities and clubs. It was great. We had no holidays after Athens, we had to play in our League and after only one and a half week we started training for this tournament.”

Australia
David Bell, coach

On the match
“We didn´t have good statistics, we only had two shots on goal. We failed with passes and we had a great pressure from German players specially at the back of the field. We didn´t have the same preparation as Germany had, we are all in different states and this is not our season. We´ve got areas to work on for the next game.”

On the pressure to win
“We always do our best, we always have expectations to do things well. The expectations are realistic, you can lose and still qualify.”

On the finalist
“I believe it will be Argentina because they are experienced players”.

Faulkner, Suzie

On the new players
“They have the ability and the talent we need and in four years' time we will have an excellent team for Beijing”.

Press Conference #3

What they said in Argentina-New Zealand match

New Zealand

Ian Rutledge, coach

On the match
“Argentina is the best team. We have ten Olympic players and six new ones. But to play in Argentina against Argentina is… well… hard”.

On Argentina´s performance
“We've learnt a lot. Argentina had a speed we hadn´t expected. We'll make some adjustments and come back stronger.”

On the objectives
“Our goal is to qualify for the 2006 World Cup”.

Argentina
Sergio Vigil, coach

On the match
“I'm satisfied with the performance and with the possibility our team had to feel free and show its play”.

On tomorrow's match against Germany
“Tomorrow is our second final, we will have to forget about this match tonight and plan a different game because we have a different opponent”.

On his retirement
“In a nutshell, you can lose, win or draw a game but what you cannot lose is a minute in your life. I don’t waste time thinking, if you think you miss the moment”.

Alejandra Gulla

On the match
“It was a great match, we had the possession of the ball and playing here makes it easy for us because we feel the support of the crowd”.

On the artificial turf
“It’s excellent. When it is wet like today, the ball runs more smoothly.”

On the final score
“We were able to capitalize many opportunities, it was an open game we'd always dreamt of winning but not with such a big margin.”
