New Zealand tie Olympic champions

In the first surprise of the tournament, Germany lost their first points in a 2-2 draw with New Zealand and the Black Sticks deserved it too in the opening of the fourth day of the 12th women's Champions Trophy at the Rosario's Jockey Club.

Playing the Germans on equal terms, New Zealand went ahead in the 31 minute through Meredith Orr's field goal for the half-time score.

Germany equalized three minutes after half-time with a reverse stick by Natascha Keller, who was her team's hardest worker in attack. But the game continued even - as the final 6-5 penalty corner score for Germany suggests - and Lizzie Igasan put New Zealand ahead again in 41 minutes, following a penalty corner.

Tina Schultze netted Germany equalizer in the 50th minute and the remaining minutes ticked by with high tension as local fans cheered New Zealand's every move.

Germany played below form, sending passes astray, but the New Zealanders tackled and marked them closely.
