China beat New Zealand

China defeated New Zealand 3-0 to take the fifth place, leaving the losers in sixth and last place.

Then, New Zealand were relegated to the Champions Challenge, which will take place next year in Virginia Beach, United States.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Champions Challenge will be promoted to the 2005 Champions Challenge.

China, who scored from only one of 24 penalty corners in the five regular championship games in spite of doing dome good combinations, seemed to have learnt yesterday when all their three goals came from penalty corners.

China dominated until Wang Yanhui put them ahead, in the 17th minute. Then play became more even.

Ma Yibo scored the second after 30 minutos and Zhou completed the scoring in 56 minutes. A New Zealand defender also cleared another of China's nine corners off the goal-line. New Zealand had seven fruitless penalty corners.

New Zealand: Jurgeleit; Weavers, Igasan, Naylor, Sutherland; Robertson, Orr, Carr; Roberts-Lang, Sharland and Drysdale. Also played: Maloney, Brewster, Galletly and Senior. Coach: Ian Rutledge.

China: Yimeng Zhang; Yibo Ma, Shaoyan Mai, Yingling Qiu, Xuejiao Huang; Wanfeng Zhou, Quiqui Chen, Shuang Li; Baorong Fu, Aili Li and Lihua Gao. Also played: Qunquing Chen, Yi Wang, Quingling Song and Yanhui Wang. Coach: Chanback Kim.
